Crown Medical Services (www.crownmedicalcenter.org) has one site near Franklin and Nicollet in downtown Minneapolis and another office in Brooklyn Park. They are in the process of working toward becoming a federally-qualified health center, and this would provide a great opportunity to learn about that process and all it entails. As part of that, they also need to prepare for an audit.
Currently, their record system is not automated, and there is an opportunity to assist with preparing for that. By 2010 the state will require at least all prescriptions to be done electronically.
In addition to practice management things like that, they also can provide opportunities for hands on learning for your medical assistant, nursing and allied health professionals programs.
If you are interested in investigating opportunities with Crown Medical, contact Becky Cole at by calling 612-781-3630 or email outreachne@yahoo.com.

HCM STUDENT SUSAN BELFORD SELECTED AS MINNESOTA CAREER COLLEGE ASSOCIATION STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Susan Belford, Health Care Management Student, from the St. Cloud (Waite Park) campus of Globe University/Minnesota School of Business, was selected as the Minnesota Career College Association student of the year at the MCCA 50th Anniversary Celebration held November 14, 2008, at Eden Prairie, MN.
Pictured L-R is Mary Ruhland, Registrar at St. Cloud who nominated Susan Belford (center), and Jerry Lovrien, HCM Dean.
In her acceptance speech, Susan in part stated:
"Thank you. What an honor this is. I appreciate Minnesota School of Business very much and find the faculty to be wonderful. Mary has been an outstanding advisor. I can’t say enough about her. Jerry is an outstanding instructor and I look forward to another course with him.
I had a few struggles over the past couple of years. I lost both parents to cancer and if it weren’t for the support and encouragement I got through the school, I probably wouldn’t be standing here today. I’m over ½ way done with my program so know I will complete it. I look forward to the future. Again, thank you very much."
The number of students listed as undergraduate for private career colleges in MN for 2007, available at the website for MN higher education, was 28,692. So Susan is certainly in an elite group being selected for the student honor so richly deserved. Congratulations for your accomplishments.

Interesting Info from Professor Weckwerth at the U of M
I thought some of you may be "into" the current idea that market trend setters, prestigious people, early adopters etc is the way life change can be marketed AND then implemented. Yes it can be marketed that way. Business Schools are big on Branding...as well as lotza consultants making big dollars. There is however a very clear counter argument to this and you may want to read both of these articles http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/122/is-the-tipping-point-toast.html and Order Versus Chaos By: Fast Company staff Peter Graven writes: It describes the work of Duncan Watts who believe good old mass marketing may be more effective especially if coupled with someword-of-mouth effects but that "since you can never know which person is going to spark the fire, you should aim the ad at as broad a market as possible--and not waste money chasing "important" people."CP: (A few of you were there.) The lecture yesterday by Prof Valenti pushed hard on network theory. But nearly all was post hockery. One can describe the distribution of events by a statistical distribution called the Poisson. It is the one usually used for random arrivals, waiting lines (Cueing) etc. The first application of "accident prone" with the Poisson applied to the description was for mule handlers in the Prussian army. The Poisson model fit it perfectly. Thus one can use the number of mule kicks as a risk factor to label accident prone people...post hock description, but it doesn't work for prediction! That's why there are big arguments against insurance companies who label people as accident prone. Nearly all insurance companies do that now...but... "After the fact description" is far different from "before the fact" prediction. Vernon E. Your school may be a good match for our employees who plan to remain in the industry, have the drive and determination to finish their degrees, and want to advance within our organization.
On the flip side, we also may be a good match for your graduates with the employment opportunities we provide. I was a client of PreferredOne’s for nine years, then jumped at the chance to accept a position with them three years ago.
